Take Your Love for Gaming to the Next Level
Esports was recently introduced at UW-Superior, offering an exciting opportunity for students to compete for UW-Superior at the club and varsity levels against collegiate teams throughout the nation.
Club tournaments began in 2024 and the varsity team will begin competing Fall 2024.
UW-Superior’s esports team is one of the only varsity-level collegiate programs in the region with professional coaches and dedicated gaming room.
Fun and Much More
Interest in esports has grown tremendously in the past few years transforming it into a widely recognized sport. Along with the fun and competition it offers, students also benefit from being part of a team and growing relationships, developing problem-solving skills and enhancing creativity. For many students, it also benefits their education in the STEM fields and career preparation.
Gaming Room
A beautifully designed competition gaming room opened Spring 2024, complete with Alienware PCs, monitors, software, and chairs. Esports teams have dedicated practice times in the gaming room, and it is also open to the campus community throughout the week during open rec hours.

Meet the Esports Coaches
Brady Stocker
Coach Stocker “iStocks” has spent the last two decades playing competitive sports, and competitive gaming. He played baseball at UW-Superior and is now the facility manager of Wessman Arena. Outside of work he loves to play Call of Duty with his wife Ciara. He resides in Hermantown, MN, and loves to spend time with his Boston Terrier Kiwi.
“I am very excited to be part of our new esports program at UW-Superior. Students will be able to practice communication, teamwork, and goal setting in a very unique way!”
Nestor Martinez
Coach Martinez “sxiny (shiny)” found a love for the competitive side of gaming in Halo 2—rising the ranks and regularly getting matched up with the pros at the time. This competitiveness followed through many of the other games he played such as League of Legends, Overwatch, and back to Halo Infinite. While not playing games, he works on art and practices piano at his home in Duluth, MN.
“I’m looking forward to bringing the experience I’ve built up coaching a Halo team during the last year to the students here at UWS. I am excited to see the students succeed and bring home some trophies from all their hard work.”
