Licensed School Counselor

At the University of Wisconsin-Superior, we believe that effective counselors:

  • Empower students and clients to actively engage in their schools and communities
  • Work to understand systemic barriers that their students or clients face
  • Build relationships to positively impact their school’s or community’s well-being
  • Learn and grow throughout their careers to respond to the changing needs of society

We are committed to considering mental health and well-being in a holistic (integrative) way that represents both the complexity and challenge of people’s lived experiences.

On-Campus and Online Delivery Formats

Whether you choose to study online or on-campus, the UW-Superior program will provide the supports and skills for you to become a knowledgeable and skilled advocate and leader in your local school or community. Most on-campus classes are offered from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. on weeknights. Some weekend and online classes are also available within the on-campus delivery format. Most students complete the program within two-and-a-half to three years.

Those who choose to study on-campus, gain some additional benefits, including:

  • Connect with practicing counselors in the region so that you can grow relationships and partnerships during your degree program
  • Engage in cohort-based learning, where you develop skills and grow alongside other counselors-in-training
  • Receive interactive, experiential, and immediate feedback aimed at growing your capacity to impact change in your community, school and spheres of influence

It’s been wonderful. It is self-paced, so I was able to finish it faster than I initially thought. I love school, so I enjoyed being full time and working full time. The instructors have been wonderful and it’s a very comprehensive program.
