As you develop your talents and become proficient in a variety of studio art media, you will learn what it means to make, experience and feel art. Attract minds and hearts with your artwork as art viewers mull the complexities or simplicities of your piece. Make people think about the world, their communities, and themselves. Develop a knowledge of art and focus on training in a specific medium such as ceramics, expressive ecopsychology, fibers, painting, photography, printmaking, or sculpture.
A studio art undergraduate degree from UW-Superior will give you the opportunity to study under accomplished artists who take a vested interest in helping you achieve your goals. You’ll have opportunities to create and exhibit your art and prepare for a career doing what you love.
*Students earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree through the studio art concentration.
What You’ll Learn
An undergraduate degree in art from UW-Superior will provide you with the skills and experience to create through self-expression. Through a concentration in studio art at UW-Superior, you will:
- Develop problem-solving skills within design, form and color
- Understand the theory, psychology, and use of color
- Become proficient in the fundamentals of drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics, metalwork, and fibers
- Become an expert in a specialized field of studio art
- Develop self-awareness and self-expression through artistic inquiry

Galleries
The Experimental Gallery is a recently redesigned space created to showcase student, faculty and community exhibitions to visitors and the UW-Superior community. Just past the entrance to the Holden Fine and Applied Arts Center, the viewing windows allow art to be enjoyed at any time and is a reminder that art should be accessible and available to all.
The Kruk Gallery provides a flexible, contemporary gallery space for art exhibits. Alumni and other professional artists’ work is displayed throughout the year. The Kruk Gallery is an important contributor and connector to the vibrant art culture in the Twin Ports.
Program Outcomes/Career Opportunities
Studio arts students benefit from learning in the vibrant arts community of the Twin Ports Superior-Duluth area. The art faculty, with their many professional connections and associations, help students identify internship opportunities that align with future career goals and give experiential learning opportunities.
