POSTPONED (due to illness)! Rescheduled date will be posted soon. Tuesday, February 25: Randy Barker presenting Social Media: The Good, The Bad, The Balanced

This presentation explores the pros and cons of social media, helping ourselves and the students we work with develop a balanced and mindful approach to their online presence. Participants will examine how social media can foster connection, creativity, and access to information while also discussing potential risks, including mental health impacts and screen addiction. Participants will learn practical strategies for using social media responsibly, maintaining privacy, and prioritizing their well-being in a digital world.

Wednesday, March 26: Lynn Goerdt presenting Social Prescribing

We will learn about the purpose and meaning behind social and nature prescribing and ways that this could be useful to campus, in our work with students, and each other.

Tuesday, April 29: Lori Tuominen presenting Recognizing Strengths in Yourself and Others

In the area of mental health, often the focus is on what’s wrong with people or those areas that need to be improved. However, research shows that recognizing and utilizing strengths (while managing weaknesses) can be more beneficial. In other words, what we focus on grows. This hands-on workshop will help attendees develop a strengths-based approach through learning the language of strengths and participating in activities of practice. Participants will learn how to discover their own strengths as well as spot them in others by learning about the VIA Character Assessment and how to utilize what’s strong rather than what’s wrong.
