Mathematics and Computer Science Offerings

UW-Superior’s Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers majors and minors in computer science, mathematics and mathematics education, as well as collaborative graduate programs in cybersecurity and information technology management. With instructors whose research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and who are accomplished mathematicians and computer science professionals, students have the opportunity to learn fundamentals as well as explore special interests and advanced courses. Students benefit from learning in a small, supportive environment where instructors get to know them and take a vested interest in their success.

The staff and faculty at UWS are really welcoming. I would recommend UWS to other international and domestic students. There are lots of scholarships available, too. And the university has a good, strong computer science program.

Hayk Arzumanyan,
Computer Science

One of the best aspects of this program has been the supportive environment, including faculty and staff. When I started, I didn’t have much experience in computer science, so I always had a lot of questions. My professors at always answered them patiently no matter what.

Winnie Zhu,
Computer Science

The best aspect of the UWS Math Department for me personally has been the professors. They are not only knowledgeable, but also cordial. This has allowed me to form a personal rapport with each of my professors, which helped tremendously in my studies.

John Hartman,
Computer Science

I read about Professor Sergei Bezroukov and was impressed with his accomplishments in discrete mathematics. I wanted a small university with an outstanding undergraduate mathematics program and I found that at UW-Superior.

Nikola Kuzmanovski,
Mathematics

Mathematics and Computer Science students have abundant opportunities for off-campus internships, service-learning activities and undergraduate research. Professors work with students individually to help them find placements that align with their career goals. Students participate in national competitions and conferences, as well as capstone classes that provide real-world experience with area businesses and organizations. Computer and mathematics student clubs enrich the educational experience with social events and academic opportunities such as computer programming contests and educational trips.

The department also hosts an annual Math Meet for hundreds of area high school students. Students get the opportunity to design and host the competition.

Swenson Hall Exterior

The Mathematics and Computer Science Department is located within Swenson Hall, which includes modern classrooms, computer labs and access to the latest technologies.

Many students participate in the Summer Undergraduate Research Program to spend the summer working on a research or scholarly project with the support of a faculty or staff mentor. Faculty also help students identify internship opportunities that align with their future career goals and provide experiential learning opportunities throughout the course of the programs.
