The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will host talented high school singers from throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota for its Chorfest High School Honor Choir Festival on Tuesday, November 7.

“Chorfest is unique among high school honor festivals because it allows students to perform choral works with an orchestra consisting of some of the best musicians in the Twin Ports,” said Michael Fuchs, UW-Superior director of choral activities and Music Department chair. “This is an opportunity that is not available in many high schools and smaller communities, and we are thrilled to provide an avenue through which students from the region can experience this wonderful music.”

Featuring a day of rehearsals, tours and masterclasses, conductors and clinicians include Fuchs, and UW-Superior colleagues Vicki Fingalson, professor of voice and director of opera workshop, and Jeffrey Madison, senior lecturer of voice and music history.

This event, which gets underway at 9 a.m., will include students from area schools coming together to perform Mozart’s immortal Requiem in D Minor. Incomplete at the time of his death, Mozart’s Requiem remains one of the most powerful and beloved works for choir and orchestra.

Chorfest concludes with a public concert featuring high school vocalists along with UW-Superior singers at 7 p.m. in Thorpe Langley Auditorium. Under the direction of Fuchs, students will have the opportunity to share the stage with professional musicians from the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra and professional soloists. The festival will also feature performances by the UWS Singers and Chorale, as well as Elaine Hagenberg’s poignant and moving piece, “You Do Not Walk Alone.”

Tickets for the performance are $5 adults and free for students. Thorpe Langley Auditorium is in Old Main, 1710 Weeks Ave.
