The University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Dr. Lydia Thering and Ms. Joan Hedrick Lecture Series will begin its fall speaker series with award-winning financial journalist Robert Powell on Thursday, October 3, at 6 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union Great Room.
Free and open to the community, Powell will share information about financial literacy for all ages. A question-and-answer and meet-and-greet sessions will follow the presentation.
A retirement and personal finance expert, Powell is renowned for his contributions in various esteemed publications. With a comprehensive understanding of retirement planning and investment management, he serves as the editor and publisher of Retirement Daily and the host of Decoding Retirement on Yahoo Finance!
Powell was a journalist fellow for the Columbia Journalism/Columbia Aging Center in 2022, and he won the Radio Television Digital News Association and the National Endowment for Financial Education Excellence in Personal Finance Reporting Award in 2021. He serves as the editor-in-chief of the Investments and Wealth Institute’s (IWI) Retirement Management Journal and hosts the Exceptional Advisor podcast by IWI.
Powell is also a partner in Plan4Life as well as the co-founder of finStream.tv, a streaming channel focused on short-form personal financial education videos, and co-founder of Parting Glass Productions, currently involved in co-producing a film in Ireland, demonstrating his passion for storytelling through diverse mediums.

Dr. Thering and Ms. Hedrick both gained Faculty Emeritus status upon retirement from UW-Superior for their dedication to education and commitment to health and well-being.
