More than 70 student musicians from Superior High and Middle Schools will join with the UW-Superior Orchestra for a Superior String Day performance on Tuesday, February 6, at 7 p.m. in Thorpe Langley Auditorium. This concert is free and open to the community.
Students will perform under the guidance of UW-Superior orchestra director and professor of violin and viola Erin Aldridge, Superior High School director Amy Eichers, and Superior Middle School director Jenna Mattson.
“This event is an opportunity to get all of the string players together from the Superior school area to build community and make great music together,” said Aldridge. “It is also a chance for younger students to see the opportunities that lie ahead, and a chance for the older students to mentor the next generation.”
This collaboration of three string orchestras will include a wide range of music from classical to pop.
“The exciting part is that we have now done this long enough that students who were first starting out in the middle school and took part in this event are now mentors to the younger students,” said Aldridge. “We focus on orchestral string playing, creating a beautiful string sound and exciting performance, and we have a lot of fun.”
Thorpe Langley Auditorium is in Old Main, 1710 Weeks Ave.
