SCCU Stadium Grand Opening Schedule Announced

Yellowjacket Athletics and the University of Wisconsin-Superior have announced the schedule for the opening of Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium, happening on the UWS campus October 11-12.

“It’s been a long time coming, but we’re excited that the day is finally here when Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium will be open for competition,” Nick Bursik, UW-Superior Director of Athletics said. “We’re excited for the community to be here and be part of the celebration for our on-campus facility that has been years in the making.”

UW-Superior, in conjunction with The Chamber of Superior and Douglas County, will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Friday, October 11. Speakers at the event will include representatives from UW-Superior, Superior Choice Credit Union as well as Northern Interstate Construction, the project’s contractor.

Saturday, October 12 will have a full schedule, including a meet for alumni of the Yellowjacket men’s and women’s track and field team, the opening of the Cenovus Energy Fan Zone, and the first home games in the facility for the Yellowjacket men’s and women’s soccer teams.

Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium Grand Opening Schedule

Saturday, Oct. 12

  • 9 a.m. – UW-Superior Alumni Track and Field Meet
  • 11 a.m. – Cenovus Energy Fan Zone Opening

The first 100 fans through the gate Saturday will receive a free T-shirt commemorating the stadium’s grand opening.

“This is an exciting day for our student-athletes, our campus and the community as a whole, as we open a facility a lot of people – staff, alumni, corporate partners and donors alike, have worked hard to make happen,” Bursik said. “That said, we caution people that the facility’s construction is still ongoing. There will still be construction vehicles on the property, and there are elements that won’t be completed until after the grand opening and into next year.

“And our fundraising, like the stadium construction, is still ongoing.”

People interested in making an investment in the facility itself, toward the naming of the track in honor of Dan Conway, or appearing on the facility’s future donor wall, can learn more and make an investment at the official development website of Yellowjacket Athletics.
