The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will present “Heroes, Myths, and Legends” featuring the Symphonic Band and Chorale on Thursday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Thorpe Langley Auditorium.
“The Symphonic Band will perform works to take the audience on a musical adventure with pieces ‘Mystery on Mena Mountain’ and ‘The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse,’” said Steven Siegel, UW-Superior director of bands and trumpet. “This will be contrasted with Frank Ticheli’s beautiful rendition of ‘Amazing Grace.’”
The chorale will perform a variety of pieces from different parts of the world, such as the exciting Serbian dance, “Fatiše Kolo,” the traditional Irish song “Parting Glass,” an African-American spiritual arrangement by Moses Hogan, and a piece written in Ojibwemowin by the Canadian composer Andrew Balfour.
“We will also take the opportunity to recognize and thank all of our graduating seniors at this end-of-year concert,” said Michael Fuchs, director of choral activities and UW-Superior Music Department Chair.
The concert will conclude as the band and choir join forces to perform two famous works by John Williams, “Hymn to the Fallen,” from “Saving Private Ryan,” and “Dry Your Tears, Afrika,” from “Amistad.”
Tickets are $5 for adults and free for students. Thorpe Langley Auditorium is in Old Main, 1710 Weeks Ave.
