The University of Wisconsin-Superior will host two free performances featuring Music Department alumni.
“We have a nationwide UWS music alumni network that is actively looking for ways to contribute to the continued success of the university and Music Department,” said Michael Fuchs, director of choral activities, associate professor and chair of the Music Department. “Five years ago, for the 125th anniversary of the university, we hosted an alumni recital and collage concert. It was a huge success and prompted the idea to continue these connections and activities this year.”
The UWS Music Alumni Recital, featuring 15 performers, will take place Friday, September 29, at 7 p.m. in Webb Recital Hall. The recital will highlight both solo and ensemble performances. The recital will be preceded by a reception in the Holden Fine Arts Center lobby beginning at 5:30 p.m. featuring light appetizers and cash bar.
The UWS Music Alumni Concert will be held Saturday, September 30, at 3 p.m. in Thorpe Langley Auditorium. Featuring nearly 20 alumni, this performance will also include UW-Superior choir, band, orchestra, percussion, opera workshop and jazz ensembles as well as solo performances from current music faculty. Music alumni will perform with current students in many of the ensembles. Pieces will center around the theme of belonging and connections to each other. A reception will take place at 2 p.m. outside of Thorpe Langley Auditorium.
“A various and eclectic mix of music will be present in both performances,” said Fuchs. “The Collage Concert will culminate with the epic first movement of Carmina Burana, combing the choir, orchestra and music alumni. Audience members should expect to experience an engaging mix of musical styles and works highlighting all the wonderful music we are making as a department.”
Webb Recital Hall is in the Holden Fine Arts Center, 1805 Catlin Ave. Thorpe Langley Auditorium is in Old Main, 1710 Weeks Ave.
