The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department recently concluded its Fall 2023 performances with the Jazz Vocal Extravaganza on December 14.

That event marked 23 concerts for the department drawing nearly 2,300 attendees.

In September, the Music Department hosted its Alumni Weekend with two free performances. More than 120 people attended the Alumni Recital, featuring 13 graduates. For the Collage Concert, nearly 100 students performed with more than 30 alumni musicians.

The Music Department continued its University Recital Series this fall with performances from Vicki Fingalson, the Twin Ports Brass Quintet and Vincent Osborn and Friends.

The Music Department also hosted 359 high school students from more than 40 schools throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota this fall for its four honor festivals – Tri-State Jazz, Tri-State Band, Chorfest and Honors Orchestra.

More than 810 individuals attended the Season of Song concerts, which took place December 3 and 5 at Cathedral of Christ the King in Superior.

“Student and faculty recitals offered amazing and varied programs that enriched our community,” said Michael Fuchs, D.M.A., UW-Superior director of choral activities, associate professor and chair of the Music Department. “The final weeks of the semester featured six different performances from the band, jazz band, orchestra, choir, percussion ensemble and opera studio. It was another full and rich semester. Our spring calendar is also full of wonderful performances and musical offerings. We have four University Recital Series concerts coming up, four student recitals and many ensemble performances. One particularly special performance includes J.S. Bach’s “St. John Passion,” which will be performed at Pilgrim Lutheran Church on April 7 – the 300th anniversary of that monumental work. We look forward to seeing you at UWS music events this spring.”
