Looking to explore career and internship opportunities? On February 27, the University of Wisconsin-Superior will be holding its Spring Career and Internship Fair.
The fair, organized by UW-Superior’s Link Center, is dedicated to student success. The center focuses on areas such as career services, Academic Service-Learning, regional outreach, community engagement and undergraduate research.
Link Center student employee and accounting major Temuulen Chuluunbat uses her personal experience to speak on the benefits of the fair.
“The UW-Superior Career and Internship Fair is an excellent opportunity to network with professionals from various industries and engage with recruiters actively seeking talent,” Chuluunbat said, “ Attending this event has not only helped me refine my networking skills, but has also allowed me to build meaningful connections with individuals from diverse fields”.
The career fair will run from noon to 3:30 p.m in the Yellowjacket Union. Students, community members, alumni and faculty are welcome to attend this free event. Participants will be able to discover job and internship opportunities, explore potential career paths and connect with organizations while building networking skills.
While not required, those interested can pre-register via Handshake. From this page, it’s able to customize an individualized plan based on attending employers and organizations.
Representatives and recruiters from 75 employers plan to attend the event. Some of the employers involved include Essentia Health, Aspirus St Luke’s, AMSOIL, Duluth and Superior/Douglas County YMCAs as well as state agencies from Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Kyle Weinschenk, a senior majoring in transportation and logistics management, was able to discover and secure career opportunities while attending the career fair.
“I was able to find my internship through a connection made at one of the fairs here and that internship has since grown into a full-time job opportunity which I will be starting after graduation” Weinschenk says, “Being able to talk to so many companies in the industry I’m interested in – all within a couple hours and in the same room – is just awesome and a rare opportunity.”
Weinschenk’s internship with Dayton Freight Lines in Minneapolis familiarized him with the company and prepared him to start as a management trainee.
Those not currently looking for an internship or job opportunity will still find value in attending.
“The first time I participated in a career fair was during my freshman year. It was part of an extra-credit assignment for one of my classes, and I wasn’t really focused on finding a job,” said Tamami Igeta, a triple major in marketing, supply chain management, and business analytics. “However, I had the chance to meet a recruiter from ALLETE, who was incredibly kind and took the time to answer all my questions, like ‘What would you recommend I do to better prepare myself for the future?’ I remember how honest and helpful she was. Two years later, I found out they were hiring interns at the next career fair. Luckily, I was selected and got the chance to meet her again.”
Students are encouraged to stop into the Link Center, located in Swenson Hall, Room 1061, to ask questions, get resources and explore the career closet for free clothing to supplement their professional wardrobe.
