Research and Sustainability
Researchers at four institutes study Lake Superior’s ecosystem and work to improve the transport and shipping industries in sustainable ways.
UW-Superior holds the prestigious Research Colleges and Universities designation from the Carnegie Foundation. This designation is awarded to U.S. institutions that spend more than $2.5 million on research annually. UW-Superior is among the roughly 20% of four-year universities with a Carnegie research designation.
Leadership
UW-Superior’s graduates are regional and national leaders in government, education, business, the arts and the professions.
UW-Superior was awarded the ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for Student Voting in 2022 for its work to institutionalize nonpartisan democratic engagement to increase student voter turnout.

First Scholars Institution
UW-Superior has been recognized as a member of the First Scholars Network for 2023-24 by the Center for First-generation Student Success, an initiative of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and The Suder Foundation. UW-Superior was selected for this honor for its demonstrated commitment to improving experiences and advancing success for first-generation college students.
