Cheong Soon researches the intersection of media, food, ethnicity, diasporas, nation-building and identity (both personal and group) in post-colonial Malaysia.
Research Interests
Currently, Cheong Soon is continuing his research on the impact of propaganda on the everyday lives of Malaysians in the 1960s, as well as the study of food as an inter-ethnic cultural glue in heterogeneous societies. He is also interested in the presence of Asia in Superior (and the Twin Ports in general) and Southeast Asian Americans. Cheong Soon is an active member of the Association of Asian Studies and the vice-chair of the Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei (MSB) Studies Group.
