Admission and Enrollment
- Current UW-Superior students:
- If you are a currently enrolled UW-Superior student, you can register for J-Term courses through E-Hive. Current students do not need to see their advisor for a PIN to register for J-Term, but all holds will need to be cleared before registration. It is always recommended that current students see their advisor prior to enrolling for J-Term to ensure the appropriate course is selected as part of a student’s academic plan.
- New First-Year Students: If you are a new incoming freshman student, you should apply as a degree-seeking student for J-Term and then continue on full time in the spring semester. You may apply online. Upon admission, you will work with your academic advisor to register for J-Term. Freshman students already admitted for Spring Semester who want to enroll in J-Term should contact the Admissions Office to request a change in the start term.
- New Transfer Students: If you’re a new student, you should apply as a degree-seeking student for J-Term and then continue on full time in the spring semester. You may apply online. To apply, visit the UW System’s online application site. Upon admission, you will work with your academic advisor to register for J-Term. Transfer students already admitted for Spring Semester who want to enroll in J-Term should contact the Admissions Office to request a change in the start term.
Students Enrolled at Other Institutions (Guest Students)
Students from other institutions who want to take courses only during the J-Term session should apply as non-degree seeking students using the University of Wisconsin online non-degree seeking application. Those students seeking to transfer credits to their college or university can do so by providing a transcript from UW-Superior upon completion of the J-Term course.
- Guest students must select “J-Term” on the online admissions application. Guest students are not required to pay an admissions application fee or provide transcripts.
- The $100 admission deposit is not required for non-degree seeking/guest students.
- Upon admission, guest students will receive an acceptance letter.
- Upon admission, a guest student should contact the Center for Academic Advising to connect with an academic advisor and to register for the J-Term course.
Students from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and The College of St. Scholastica are invited to enroll in J-Term at UW-Superior, but J-Term courses do not qualify under the Cross Registration Agreement.
Course Load Policy
Students may elect to take one course in the J-Term.
Waitlisting
If a course is full, join the waitlist to express your interest in the course. UW-Superior will monitor wait lists and expand seats/sections as necessary and as resources are available.
Financial Aid for J-Term Courses
Credits from J-Term will be combined with credits from the Fall term for financial aid purposes. If you are already full time for Fall semester, you may not be eligible for additional aid for your J-Term courses. Aid that has already been disbursed for Fall semester will not be adjusted up or down (except for non-attendance).
Students receiving the Non-Resident Tuition Waiver (NTW) are eligible for NTW for J-Term on-campus courses.
No special financial aid application is required for J-Term.
Financial aid for J-Term will be assessed after you register for your classes, and if eligible, disbursement will occur late in Fall semester, after your J-Term bill is calculated.
Students receiving financial aid must submit an overpayment authorization form in lieu of payment in full. Failure to make payment or submit a form will result in a late payment fee. Students may be deregistered from their classes.
Academic Advising
The Center for Academic Advising will be open and available to assist all J-Term students. Faculty advising may be limited during this time, so please connect with your faculty advisor before the end of the fall semester for assistance.
Dining
Food service in the Yellowjacket Union is not available during J-Term. Students are encouraged to prepare their own food or dine at any of the local restaurants nearby.
Educational Success Center
The Educational Success Center will be open and available to assist all J-Term students. Services include: disability support, tutoring (both online and in person, by advance request), testing services, advising, and other support as needed.
Housing
Students with a fall and spring semester housing contract may continue living in the residence halls during J-Term.
Students who want to rent a room in the residence hall during J-Term should contact the Residence Life office by the second week of December to ask about availability.
Library Access
The Jim Dan Hill Library offers 24/7 access to electronic resources.
Parking
Students only enrolled in J-Term (i.e. guest students to UW-Superior) taking an on-campus course are required to get a parking permit. Students who have a full-year parking permit can use that permit for on-campus J-Term courses. Students who purchased a parking permit for the fall semester only have parking privileges through the end of J-Term.
