About
Mexican pianist Hector Landa is a strong advocate for music of the 20th and 21st centuries, and especially of repertoire by living Mexican composers. Prizewinner of the Edvard Grieg and the Isaias Noriega de la Vega Piano Competitions, Dr. Landa has enjoyed a multi-faceted career as a recitalist, soloist with orchestras, ballet pianist, orchestral pianist, vocal coach, staff accompanist, and church musician.
Hector Landa has performed recitals in the United States, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, Iceland, Spain, Belgium, the UK, and the Netherlands. He has been featured as a soloist with the Greensboro Philharmonic, UACJ Symphony Orchestra, UAT Symphony Orchestra, Puebla State Symphony Orchestra, University of Chihuahua Symphony Orchestra, Secretary of Culture Symphony Orchestra, and the Puebla State Conservatory Orchestra. He has also received numerous awards, grants, and scholarships throughout his career.
An active member of the Wisconsin Music Teachers Association and currently Vice President of Conference, Dr. Landa is regularly invited to adjudicate piano competitions and festivals and invited to present at regional, national, and international conferences.
Dr. Landa studied piano pedagogy with Jane Magrath and Barbara Fast, collaborative piano with Allison Gagnon, and piano performance with Ed Gates, Clifton Matthews, Oscar Tarragó, and Guadalupe Parrondo. He also played in master classes for Robert McDonald, Awadagin Pratt, Konstantin Sherbakov, Nikolaus Lahusen, and Aquiles delle Vigne.
Hector Landa currently serves as Associate Professor of Piano at the University of Wisconsin–Superior, where he teaches all piano courses and music theory. Prior to this appointment, he served on the faculties of the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire and the University of Louisiana–Lafayette.
